D'tails Dog Salon

No fur. No paws. No service.

Q & A

Home nail trimming and between grooming brush outs are essential for your pets continued comfort. Both can be done at home. The best and easiest way to keep nails short is to walk. Get out and walk your dog on pavement. That wears the nails down on most dogs very well. Using a human nail file is another less invasive option.
Brushing may be a new experience for both of you. The key is to build trust. I suggest finding yourself an extremely high value treat. One that you will only give for nail filing and brushingnsessions. Start small. (nails)Touch the toes, no filing and treat often. Introduce filing motions as allowed in quick short motions and increase with time. Try to do several sessions a day. Never force it. Don't struggle to keep a hold of the paw. It may take a long time, but it will be worth it :) Take your time and build that trust. File a bit off every day. Try to keep the sessions short and fun.
I have seen horrendously overgrown nails returned to nice, tight nails in a few weeks using this method.
Please visit my FB page to see a quick video on brushing that was shared with me.

Q: What do you mean by current client and why are you no longer accepting new clients? I see appointments available within 2-3 weeks.

A: Current clients are those who have been groomed by me in the last 3 months. 4 under special circumstances. When my current and long time clients were having to wait 6-8 weeks to book their next visit, I decided to close my books to new clients and clients who are infrequent grooms.

Q: How do you set prices?

A: While many groomers charge by the breed, I chose to charge by the hour/size as I feel this is the most fair way to accurately price my grooming. I will use Yorkshire Terriers (pet quality)for my example. I see many Yorkies of different sizes and coat textures. Some are as small as 3lbs while others have been as much as 20lbs. Some have fine silky hair while others have fluffy soft hair. Some are brushed out routinely and others not touched between groomings. Some are well behaved and some, not so much. It would not be fair to charge the owners of these very different dogs the same amount even if they are all the same breed.

EXAMPLES ARE PETS IN GOOD CONDITION, WITHIN BREED STANDARD SIZE/WEIGHT

$65/hour

Well behaved and well maintained pets under 15lbs are generally $55-60.

Well behaved and well maintained pets 16-25lbs are generally $60-75.

Q: I have to work all day but your site says pets must be picked up as soon as finished. Do you have options for me?

A: Unfortunately we do not offer a sitting or kennel service. We can, with advance notice, schedule outside normal hours.

Q: It says you charge $25 on top of the groom for same day/after hours appointments. Why?

A:
This only applies if all appointments have been filled for the day and we agree to stay late or come in early. This rate is much like over-time in a wage based job. We charge this to compensate for the additional time required to groom outside of normal hours.
